Each fall we have a family tradition of making caramel apples. This year we discovered honeycrisp apples, thanks to Doug's sister Lisa. They are really delicious! Crisp with a little tart and a little sweet. There is a place in Blackfoot that grows them, and we are looking forward to that bag coming to us on Wednesday (thanks in advance Jim and Lisa). Anyway...the kids love caramel apples, but I think they love the tradition more. They usually eat one apple, and then it's up to Doug to eat the rest (which is usually not a problem). The kids couldn't wait for the honeycrisp apples, so we had to settle for granny smith and gala. Everyone helped open the caramels, but not all of them ended up on the pan... isn't it a rule to eat at least one caramel that you're opening? Then everyone crowds around the pan to watch the caramels melt, Doug dips the apples and we enjoy the fruits of our labor. Oh the sticky sweetness!
