Touring Salt Lake

For the past few summers my mother-in-law, Marlene, has been coming to Salt Lake from Idaho with my nephew Chase and sometimes Kade. Kade was too busy with his own outtings this summer to come down, so it was just Chase and Marlene. We have such a great time, it's usually a whirlwind because we are just go go going.

They came down last Wednesday night. We got up Thursday and went to the downtown library. Doug's sister is a librarian in Blackfoot, so they've been wanting to check out the "new" library downtown. It's a lot bigger than the library in Blackfoot, but they are doing the same summer reading program...BUGS! They had a silk worm condo building and some other bugs on display. We checked out a few books, movies, and CD's for the kids and then headed to lunch at Wingers. We had my neices with us this day, too, so we thought the $1.99 kids meals and wingers sounded pretty good. It was me, Marlene and 7 kids! They did really good at lunch, I was impressed! Everyone behaved and actually ate. Then we went to the aquarium. We have had a membership there for the past year. I don't think we'll renew it until they get more to see. It's cool and all, but it's a little boring after a few times. They kids always like the touching tank, though!

Friday morning we went swimming at Fairmont Aquatic Center. It's a favorite of the kids. It is shallow and they have all sorts of dumping and spraying things and a little lazy river with a toilet bowl at the end. You can rent tubes, and it has a zero depth entry, which is great for the little little ones. We had Grace's birthday party here last year, and it was a lot of fun.

Then we headed to Park City. We stopped at the Outlet stores and loaded up on school clothes, thank you Marlene! She totally spoils her grandkids. Then we headed to the Olympic Park. They had some students doing the jumps into the pools and practicing the jumps down the hill, I can't remember what the events are called exactly. I know one is freestyle, but I can't remember what the other is called. Anyway, it's really cool to watch these kids do the jumps on skis in the summer time.

Then we bought our ride passes....we actually got Marlene to go down the zipline....twice! Along with the alpine slide. It was a lot of fun. The kids love the alpine slide. We then went to dinner and headed to the condo for some much needed rest. We got up late Saturday and headed back to SLC. That night we took the kids to Chuck E. Cheese's to celebrate Grace and Ryker's birthdays. They got to open their presents from Grandma and Lisa, and they were thrilled with everything. (We did make it to Toys R Us for the ant farms from aunt Lisa).

Sunday we had to say goodbye, in a rush as we were headed to church. The time always goes so quickly when they come, and it's hard to say goodbye. We are so thankful they can come to visit and for all Marlene does for us!
